Pay & Play Golf in Woolwich: How It Works at The City Golf Club

Pay & Play Golf in Woolwich: How It Works at The City Golf Club

Not everyone wants to join a club straight away, and you should not have to. If you just want to hit some balls, play a few holes with friends, or see whether indoor golf is for you, pay & play is the answer. Book a bay by the hour, turn up, play. Here is exactly how it works at The City Golf Club in Royal Arsenal, Woolwich.

What pay & play means

Pay & play is simple: you book a simulator bay for a set amount of time, bring who you like within the bay's group size, and pay for the session with no membership and no ongoing commitment. It is the indoor golf equivalent of turning up to a driving range, except you are in a warm bay hitting to a screen with tour-level shot tracking, and you can play full holes rather than just bash balls.

How to book

Booking is done online through our booking system, so you can pick your slot and secure it in a couple of minutes. We are open from early until late every day, so you can grab a bay before work, at lunch, or in the evening. At busy times, especially winter evenings and weekends, booking ahead is wise.

What it costs

Pay & play starts at £25 per hour. The bay price covers the group, so bringing friends splits the cost and makes it excellent value for a social hour. If you find yourself coming regularly, membership from £125 per month works out cheaper and unlocks the putting green, co-working space and club events. There is no joining fee, and monthly membership has a six-month minimum term, but there is no pressure to join.

What to expect when you arrive

You will be playing on Trackman iO, the indoor-specific version of the launch monitor used by most of the world's top professionals. The bay is set up and calibrated, so you simply choose what you want to do on the screen: play a course, practise on the range, or run one of the games. If it is your first time, staff will get you started. Clubs are available if you do not have your own, and normal comfortable clothing and trainers are fine.

  • Groups and friends after a fun, competitive hour that beats the pub.

  • Lapsed golfers easing back into the game in a relaxed setting.
